Why there is no "Trumpet Christmas"
Last week I shared this mp3 with some
classes. There have been a number of students who wanted a copy, so here
it is. But first, a little explanation:
Since 1974, tuba and euphonium players have been holding
"Tuba Christmas" events. Hundreds (even thousands) of musicians
will assemble with their tubas and euphoniums to play Christmas music at
various locations around the world. There is one at Underground
Atlanta on December 4th. See
(http://www.tubachristmas.com)
Jazz trumpeters have long been known for their extreme
high range. Players like
Maynard Ferguson, Jon Faddis, and
Arturo Sandoval have ranges
that are unbelievable! Check them out on YouTube. But-trumpeters
also have a reputation of "showing off" their high notes in , shall we
say, a "less than tasteful" manner. They try to "out screech" each
other, and see who can hold the high note the longest....AFTER the
cutoff!
So here's a parody (joke) about what it might be
like if there was a "Trumpet Christmas"
